It was a beautiful day today with smooth seas and sunshine. We posted the blog from yesterday and then headed to the talk with Milos today on the Panama Canal. He is so funny and entertaining it makes learning fun. He is so knowledgeable about the history of the canal. We currently now know that each lock is 1,000 feet long and 110 feet wide and there are 6 of them—3 on the Atlantic side and 3 on the Pacific side. Our ship is 965 feet long and 105 feet 7 inches wide. He said all ships loose paint in the canal because it is a tight fit for most and at the first port after the canal they will be out painting the ship where it scraped. The largest amount ever paid for a passage was paid by Princess Cruise Lines at $360,000 and the lowest was 36 cents paid by a swimmer who swam the 50 miles through the canal. Ok that was your brief history lesson for the day. They had a brunch in the main dining room today with the ice sculptures and it was very pretty. We met a couple from the Boston area at the brunch. After that we had tickets to the wine tasting and most of them were horrible then we went to the casino. We went back to Michael’s club again tonight and then went to dinner to meet our new table mates which are two gals from California. We did enjoy their company and had a nice dinner. Since tomorrow is Cartagena and we have an early tour, we came back to the cabin to get things ready for the morning. I hope the weather is a nice tomorrow as it was today.
