Freddy’s Coming

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
Friday, November 20, 2009

I woke up and it was still very dark but I could see the lights from another ship in the reflection in the mirror. I don’t know why it is this way on ship but I must get up and go see. I went out on the balcony and can also see Cabo but the ship I just know it is the Carnival Splendor. It is very far away—too far to see anything but the lights. Debbie gets up too because she can’t sleep with all the noise I am making running in and out. She looks and agrees it is a Carnival ship but she doesn’t think it is the Splendor. It begins to get light and we are very close now and so is the ship—it was our home for 31 days and by gosh we are anchored next to the Carnival Splendor. It is an absolutely beautiful day and much cooler here than in Acapulco. We went on one of the best tours we have ever purchased for a ship’s tour. It was the Cabo Yacht and Snorkel tour. We were on one of the first tenders to the pier and the yacht was right there so after some instructions we were led onto this 78 ft. yacht with 23 of our closest shipmates. It was beautiful and they waited on us hand and foot with anything you wanted to drink…but no alcohol until the snorkel is over. They had homemade salsa, guacamole, kabobs, pastries and chips and all of it was sooo good. Debbie and I didn’t snorkel but opted to take photos an it was amazing the beautiful fish you could see in the water. Of course we also went to Cabo “Land’s End” which is the end of the Baja Peninsula and also know as Cabo Arch.
It is unbelievable how the rocks and the sea have made these formations and since technically Cabo San Lucas is in the Sea of Cortez, when you round the Land’s End you are in the Pacific Ocean. There are a few places where the rocks have been eroded by the sea and you can see through from the Sea of Cortez to the beach on the Pacific side which was and amazing thing to sea. The rocks have also divided the beaches and the cliffs are so high it is difficult to get the sea to the sky in one photo. We saw Sly Stalone’s home perched above the rocks and Sammy Hagar’s home was bigger. Sammy is one of the owners of Cabo Wabo. We saw where Cabo Wabo was but it is only open at night. Coming back we were amused watching the “Mexican chickens” as the crew called them—pelicans. They were the biggest that I had ever seen and were sitting all over the harbor on boats as well. Debbie and I walked around the pier area when we got back and they had some very amusing sights there as well. A guy dressed like Johnny Dep in Pirates of the Caribbean was painted totally gold and appeared to be a statue until you walked by and then he blinked and moved...scared the *#@% out of me! And there were a few other real “works of art” around that we have included as well. We got back to our cold towels and got back to the ship in time to watch us leave before the Splendor but it followed us most of the night last night. It was a great day but I never got to see Freddy…so close and yet so far. This is our last post as today is a sea day and our packing and get ready to go home day. We are anxious to see everyone at home but it will be sad to say goodbye to everyone. Thanks Dave for following our adventures.

  1. Hope you two enjoy you remaining time on the cruise. Thanks for telling me about the blog. I have enjoyed reading about your adventures, and also liked the pictures. Funny you mentioned Johhny Depp, as People magazine just voted him as the world's sexiest man. Can't agree with that selection as he's one of those guys that I refuse to go see in the movies. Think he is too full of himself. Well welcome back home!! It's about 55 and cloudy here today and I think I'm going to try to squeeze in a cycle ride before dark. we will be down in Newport News starting Tues through next Sunday.
    Take Care
    Dave
